A Matter of Choice: People and Possibilities in the Age of AI
Via Sarfatti 25
In an era defined by rapid technological transformation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands as one of the most consequential forces shaping our future. UNDP’s 2025 Human Development Report tackles the impact of AI and its implications for human development. While much of the public debate centers on technical capabilities and competitive dynamics, who will “win” the AI race or whether AI will replace humans, the 2025 HDR reframes the conversation. Instead of asking “When will AI surpass humans?” it asks: “How can AI augment human capabilities, support wellbeing, and foster inclusive progress?”. At its core, it is a report about people, including how AI impacts lives across the globe, and how it shapes the systems we live in. In this context, the discussion will also focus on the implications of AI for gender divides and how to mitigate them.
