Nathalie Tocci joins the Institute for European Policymaking @ Bocconi University as a Senior Fellow and Managing Board Member
Milan, 11 December 2025 — The Institute for European Policymaking @ Bocconi University (IEP@BU) announces the appointment of Nathalie Tocci as Senior Fellow, effective 1 January 2026. She will also join the Institute’s Managing Board (Consiglio Direttivo).
Tocci will assume her responsibilities at IEP@BU after completing her mandate as Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), a role she has held since 2017.
Recognised as one of Europe’s leading analysts of foreign, security, and defence policy, at IEP@BU Tocci will lead a research agenda focused on European defence and security, addressing the growing geostrategic dimensions of policymaking, Europe’s pursuit of strategic autonomy, and the European Union’s role in an increasingly competitive international environment.
She holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Her research spans European integration, foreign and security policy, defence, energy, and conflict resolution.
A contributor to leading Italian and international newspapers, Tocci will also publish commentaries on the IEP@BU website and the IEP@BU Substack Newsletter.
Her presence on the Managing Board will reinforce IEP@BU’s intellectual leadership and strengthen its capacity to produce policy-relevant, evidence-based analysis.
This appointment reflects IEP@BU’s commitment to its mission: to equip Europe with rigorous, forward-looking research at a moment when all major policy challenges have become profoundly geopolitical.
