Matteo Scotto
Matteo Scotto is Director of Research and Projects and Deputy Secretary General at Villa Vigoni, the German-Italian Centre for European Dialogue, a bilateral institution jointly managed by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Space and Technology and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. His academic work focuses on theories and methods of European integration, with particular attention to the intergovernmental dimension of the European Union, processes of state transformation in Europe, and EU institutional reforms. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Bonn.
He is the author of the monograph “La trappola dell’integrazione. Capire l’Europa degli Stati nazionali” published by Rubbettino Editore. He recently authored the article “Toward a Post-American Europe? Trump as a Catalyst for EU Governance”, published by Springer.
He has several years of professional experience in German-Italian academic and institutional cooperation. Before joining Villa Vigoni in 2016, from 2013 to 2016 he worked at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), where he served as Programme Officer for Southern Europe and for the special programme “Leadership for Syria”. His work bridges research, policy dialogue, and bilateral exchange between Italy and Germany.
