Laurenz Guenther

Laurenz Guenther is current research focuses on the political representation of EU citizens, trust in democratic institutions, and populism. For instance, a recent paper of him shows that in nearly all European countries and the EU as a whole, the policy decisions of parliaments differ significantly, strongly, and systematically from the policy attitudes of their voters and citizens. An ongoing project examines the effects of these political representation gaps. Due to the policy relevance of these findings, he has presented them at an internal seminar of the European Commission. Since then, he has worked on research projects with policy advisors there.
