Edith Wagner is a Post Doctoral Fellow at IEP@BU. She graduated from Heidelberg University (Ph.D.), Yale Law School (LL.M.), and the University of Würzburg (degree in European law & first State exam). Prior to joining IEP@BU, she worked at the Court of Appeals of Koblenz, the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry of Justice within the framework of the legal clerkship (Referendariat) in Germany. During her doctoral research, she was affiliated with the International Max Planck Research School for Successful Dispute Resolution and worked as a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law.

Olesya Vinhas de Souza

Dr Olesya Vinhas de Souza is a reseaecher at the NATO Defense College-Rome. Se is a defense analysist with expertise in Russia and cybersecurity. She leverages cutting-edge quantitative methods to gain insights into the factors that drive Russia’s foreign policy and identify changes in the operational environment that have strategic and tactical implications for NATO.
She started her trans-Atlantic career at the RAND Corporation where she published on the nexus between technology and security.
After Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, she joined the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Policy) at the Pentagon, where she directly contributed to the development and implementation of policies to strengthen the U.S. defense posture in Eastern Europe and subsequently received an achievement award from the Under Secretary of Defense.
After moving to Brussels, she became a faculty at the Brussels School of Governance-VUB and also served as Acting Dean of Vesalius College.
She holds her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Skalny Center for Polish and Eastern European Studies at the University of Rochester.
She is a winner of prestigious George F. Kennan Fellowship (the Kennan Institute), Fulbright Fellowship (U.S. Department of State), and the Graduate Studies Fellowship (National Science Foundation).

Thomas Gomart

Thomas Gomart has been director of Ifri since 2015. He was a member of the editorial committee of the 2017 National Defence and Security Strategic Review, placed under the authority of the Minister for Armed Forces. Thomas Gomart is a member of the scientific council of Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) and of the editorial board of the journals: Politique étrangère, Revue des deux mondes and Études.
His current work focuses on Russia, digital governance, French foreign policy, geopolitical risk and think tanks.
He recently published L'Affolement du monde (Tallandier, 2019), Guerres invisibles (Tallandier, 2021) and Les Ambitions inavouées. Ce que préparent les grandes puissances (Tallandier, 2023). His latest book, "L’Accélération de l’histoire. Les nœuds géostratégiques d’un monde hors de contrôle", Editions Tallandier, was published in January 2024.
Thomas Gomart has a doctorate in the history of international relations (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) and is an EMBA graduate (HEC). He is knight of the National Order of Merit.
