Goulard Sylvie

Sylvie Goulard is President of the Deutsch Französisches Institut (Ludwigburg, Germany) and Vice President of the Institute for European Policymaking at Bocconi University (Milano, Italy). She is also Professor of Practice at SDA Bocconi.
In June 2023, she was designated co-chair (with Dame Amelia Fawcett) of a Franco British initiative aiming at creating nature related financial instruments to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss.
From January 2018 to December 2022, she was deputy governor of the Banque de France / Eurosystem with a portfolio comprising international issues, research, public financial education and financial stability issues, including those related to climate and the monitoring of the secretariat of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) that coordinates the work of around 120 Central Banks and supervisors committed to tackle climate related financial risks and encourage sustainable development. Within the NGFS, Mrs Goulard co-chaired the Task Force on nature-related risks.
After the presidential election in 2017, Mrs Goulard was Minister of Defense in the first Edouard Philippe Government.
From 2009 to 2017, she served as a member of the European Parliament (ALDE group / Econ committee).
She was before a political advisor to Romano Prodi during his time as President of the European Commission and Chair of the French European Movement.
In 2009 she received an award (Prix du livre Européen) for her book L’Europe pour les Nuls.
van der Lugt Sanne

Dr Sanne van der Lugt is researcher and policy advisor on China in Africa, Chinese technological developments and the consequences for European strategic autonomy. Because of her background in Anthropology, International Political Economy and International Business, she studies these topics from different angles. As a researcher at the Center for Chinese Studies of Stellenbosch University in South Africa, she has conducted fieldwork in various African countries. She has carried out research projects for Oxfam, WWF and the European Commission, among others. She has experience with running a business in China and provides training and advice to European policy makers.

Sironi Andrea

Andrea Sironi is a Professor of Banking and Finance and, since November 2022, the President of Bocconi University. He was Rector from 2012 to 2016. Since May 2021 he is also President of the Italian Foundation for Cancer Research (AIRC), while in May 2022 he became Chairman of Assicurazioni Generali. Until April 2022 he has been Chair of Borsa Italiana, the Italian stock exchange.
Sironi has held visiting positions at the Research and Statistics Division of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, DC, at the Salomon Brothers Center, Stern School of Business (NYU), and at Sciences Po, Paris. In the past, he has been a member of the BoD of the London Stock Exchange Group, of the Intesa SanPaolo Group and of the Unicredit Group. At the beginning of his career, Andrea Sironi was a financial analyst at the Chase Manhattan Bank in London.

Rowley Thomas

Thomas Rowley is a researcher at the Institute for European Policymaking at Bocconi University. He obtained his PhD in Economics at ESSEC Business School and CY Cergy Paris Université. His research focuses on international trade, productivity, competition, and the intersection of trade, industrial, and environmental policies.
Mengel Philipp-Leo

Philipp-Leo Mengel is a PhD researcher at Bocconi University and the University of Chicago. Prior to attending Bocconi, he studied at the University of Oxford and University College London (UCL), obtaining an MSc and BSc degree in Economics. Philipp-Leo is affiliated with the Institute for European Policymaking @ Bocconi, and co-founder of the AI-based startup A-EYES. His research interests include EU Innovation Policy, Industrial Organisation and Political Economy.
