What does Europe need to do to face the Russian Threat?

The seminar will address Europe’s current geopolitical situation in light of Russia’s ongoing aggression, including its threats to European security and the continuing war in Ukraine. We will reflect on the strategic, political, and economic implications of these challenges and explore possible responses that Europe must consider.

The EU’s Anti-Poverty Strategy: An evaluation and next steps

The President Von der Leyen’s political guidelines for 2024-2027 announced the first-ever European Anti-poverty strategy to help people to get access to the essential protections and services they need, along with addressing the root causes of poverty. 

The Strategy is expected to be presented in 2026. To prepare it, the European Commission (DG EMPL) and Bocconi University are organizing a joint event to gather expert contributions, focusing on topics such as minimum income, breaking the intergenerational transmission of poverty, and financing anti-poverty measures

Roundtable meeting on the EPL-innovation relationship
A widely noticed IEP-Bocconi publication argued that the high cost of adjusting the labour force hampers European competitiveness in innovative sectors. But opinions diverge on how high the costs of failure and of adjusting labour force are and whether they represent the key obstacle for innovative sectors in Europe.

The Global Financial Safety Net in a Fragmented World

This event will explore the evolution of the GFSN, its four main pillars—the IMF, Regional Financing Arrangements, bilateral swap lines, and foreign exchange reserves—and take a closer look at the role of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). We will also reflect on the challenges Europe is likely to face in the coming years, from geoeconomic fragmentation to climate change, digitalization, and demographic shifts, and discuss how the GFSN can be strengthened to meet the demands of future crises.
